He started an astonishing 815 games during his twenty-two seasons of Major League service, winning 511 to set perhaps the most untouchable record in the full spectrum of American sport. But Young, one of the most famous figures of the turn-of-the-century game, retreated to rural seclusion after his fabled career was complete, returning to the bright lights of the city on only the rarest of occasions.

This ball surely ranks among the last in-person signings of Young's life, dating to just a year before his 1955 passing. The bold blue fountain pen signature on the clean white Reach Official Baseball grades a solid 9/10.

The ball is encapsulated by BGS (Beckett Grading Services) and graded MINT 9. An included period 8x10 photographic print finds the ancient ace holding the ball in his left hand as a couple of young ballplayers and a man we presume to be their father pose for the camera. A dog locks eyes with Young, clearly longing for a game of fetch that was luckily denied.
